XRP is inherently built for-and exists on-the XRP Ledger, not on Ethereum. However, users occasionally see references to “Wrapped XRP” tokens on Ethereum. This “wrapped” version of XRP essentially represents XRP locked on its native chain while an equivalent token circulates on Ethereum.
- Native XRP: Transactions occur only on the XRP Ledger.
- Wrapped XRP (wXRP): An ERC-20 (or sometimes another chain’s equivalent) token that represents XRP, enabling it to be used in Ethereum-based DeFi applications, but it is not the same as sending native XRP.
It’s crucial to distinguish native XRP from wrapped tokens. If you mistakenly send native XRP to an Ethereum address (or vice versa), your coins may become inaccessible.
